Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about classes, policies, and getting started with Music Together® in Montreal.

Getting started

Do me or my child need to have musical abilities to sign up?

No! At Music Together® with Oasis Music Therapy, we believe that every child has an innate ability to make music. No musical exposure or formal training is necessary to join our classes, just a willingness to sing and play with your child!

Can we try a class before registering?

Yes! We offer a complimentary, free demo class for each new family so you can try out our program. You can register for a demo here.

Are classes in English, French, or both?

Our classes are primarily in English, but we are very happy to support both English and French-speaking families!

The Music Together songbooks are in English, but the songs themselves go far beyond language. Music Together incorporates music from around the world. Many of our songs use playful, wordless sounds so every child and parent can participate, regardless of their native language.

What ages are the classes for?

We offer two types of classes: Mixed Age and Babies. The Mixed Age class is a family class for children 0-5 and their caregivers. In this class, babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers sing and play side-by-side.

Our Babies class is reserved for infants 0-8 months, where they get to explore music and different sensory experiences with their caregiver. You can read more about our class types here.

Is my child welcome if they have additional needs?

Absolutely! Our teachers are Certified Music Therapists and/or have experience in special education. We welcome children of all abilities and learning styles. If your child has a sensory or comfort need, let us know and we’ll plan with you.

In class

What does a 45-minute class look like?

Our classes involve many active music-making experiences, designed to teach the way children learn. Each week, a trained Music Together® teacher leads the class in singing, dancing, and playing songs using a wide variety of child-friendly percussion instruments.

What if my child just watches the whole time?

Don't worry! This is a totally normal and common experience for many children in our classes. Even if your child appears as though they aren't paying attention, tons of information is being absorbed and processed.

Throughout the semester, your teacher will help you tune in to how your child learns best so you can support their music development!

Does a caregiver need to stay?

Yes, Music Together® is a parent-and-child program, so a caregiver joins in every class. Your participation is what helps your child's musical growth. Nannies, grandparents, or another caregiver can attend in your place.

Can I bring snacks or food to class?

No. Snacks and food are not permitted in class. If food is seen during class you will be asked to put it away. Water bottles, sippy cups and of course breast feeding are welcome.

Can I bring toys to class?

Preferably, no. Toys, games, stuffed animals, etc. should be left in a bag or at home to prevent classroom disruption. Exceptions are made for important comfort or sensory needs.

Missed classes & changes

What if I miss a class?

No problem! Make-up classes can be scheduled by emailing the Director at Sarah.OasisMT@gmail.com. Make-ups aren't guaranteed and depend on other class sizes and spot availability, but we will do our best to accommodate your request.

For more information, read our make-up policy.

What if my child is sick?

If you or your child are feeling sick, please stay home! You can schedule make-up classes at any point in the semester by emailing the Director for make-up availability.

Can I cancel my registration?

Yes, registration can be cancelled up to 2 weeks before classes for a full refund. If you cancel within 2 weeks of class starting, you are subject to a $35 cancellation penalty. We are unable to refund full tuition fees after the start of classes.

What if a class is cancelled?

If a class is cancelled, you will be notified as soon as possible by email and phone. Every attempt will be made to reschedule the class by extending the semester, or offering make-ups.

Can siblings come to the same class?

Yes! Sometimes an older sibling (or unregistered sibling) needs to attend class with you. No problem! Here is how it works:

Registered siblings: register through our registration form for an additional fee.
